Founded & Based in San Jose, CA
Golden Turtle Lion Dance Association was established by Tony Mai and Peter Chu in 2021. Our founders started lion dancing as early as 7 years old and since then, their passion grew. Originally, they started with Traditional Vietnamese Martial Arts Based Lion Dance which later evolved into Sar Ping Hok San style Lion Dance. Our inclusiveness distinguishes Golden Turtle Lion Dance Association from other lion dance troupes. Many lion dance troupes are only available at martial arts schools, churches, and temples. Golden Turtle Lion Dance, on the other hand, is open to everyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, age, or physical ability.
Our mission at The Golden Turtle Lion Dance Association is to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of lion dancing while empowering our youth to become dynamic leaders for future generations. Through high-quality performances, community outreach, and educational initiatives, we aim to enrich the San Francisco Bay Area with the art of lion dance and provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for our youth to learn and grow.
We envision a world where the art of lion dance is celebrated and respected as a symbol of cultural heritage and diversity. As a lion dance troupe, we are committed to fostering the growth and development of the art form through high-quality performances, educational initiatives, and community outreach. Our ultimate goal is to inspire future generations to appreciate and preserve the art of lion dance, ensuring its longevity for years to come.
